We focus on the disposable component of diagnostic tests and have significant expertise with point of care (POC) in vitro diagnostics (IVD). We provide full assay development services and have impressive in-house manufacturing capabilities, ranging from screen printing and laser ablation of electrodes for biosensors to final device assembly, including the formulation and deposition of chemistries.

Role Description
As an experienced Chief Accountant, you will bring hands-on expertise to the company. Reporting to the Finance Director you will have day-to-day responsibility for the Finance Operations Team. You will oversee all finance processing and have responsibility for routine financial reporting. Accounts are currently managed manually via spreadsheets albeit plans are in place to implement a software solution. FlexMedical Solutions is a small, yet high performing organisation and to be successful it is imperative that you bring with you a ‘can do’ attitude and a passion for your work. You will focus on providing a seamless service to the business whilst dealing with both suppliers and clients. FlexMedical operates in the highly regulated area of medical devices and control of product is paramount.
This is a part-time role, offered either as 25 hours over 5 days per week, Mon – Fri, or as 24 hours over 4 days per week.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Cycle
- Ensure that all processing is accurate and timely
- Ensure that controls are adequate and effective. Where shortcomings are identified make appropriate recommendations for improvement
Purchase Cycle
- Ensure that all processing is accurate and timely

Staff Oversight
- Ensure Finance Ops tasks are reasonably split between the Senior Finance Assistant (SFA) and Finance Assistant (FA) and workloads are balanced
- Ensure that an effective dialogue exists across the Team to maintain & improve delivery
Sales
- Understand (and maintain a report) explaining the invoiced / not invoiced status of all accepted Customer Orders
- Work with Growth function to maintain meaningful sales funnel & pipeline data
Monthly Management Accounts
- Ensure month end is completed in efficient & effective way:
- Ensure that SFA and FA understand their month end accountabilities and are capable to deliver them
- Journals prepared and posted:(Sales, Purchases, Cash Receipts & Payments, Inventory, Corporation Tax )
- Ensure that periodic control accounts for Balance Sheet Control Accounts are maintained by the appropriate Team Member
- Review Balance Sheet Control Accounts periodically with the Finance Director and document risks and opportunities
- Analytical review of income & expenses – including commentary on variances
- Monthly generation of management reports ( P&L, BS, Cashflow & other financial key performance indicators (KPI) that may from time to be agreed)
Management Information
- Provide in-period financial KPI reports as required by the business operating system (Billings, Billing Security, Backlog/Overdue, Revenue, Cash, Debt Collection, Purchases, CAPEX, P&L Forecast)
- Generate accurate ACTUAL reports as may be from time to time required (Sales, Purchases, Payroll, BS)
Budget, Forecast & Planning
- Assist from time to time with the generation of data to support forecasts:
- orders on hand / backlog
- headcount / payroll
- overheads
Compliance
- Manage controls and reporting through system (ERP) and non-system controls
- Statistical returns
- Support the FD with ad hoc analysis that may from time to time required re: statutory accounts / corporation tax / other compliance
Project/Continuous Improvement
- Establish & maintain a “touch it once” processing ethos over documentation and from time to time report on cost per transaction
- Use data and technology to eliminate cost and repetitive tasks and keep FMS appropriately digital
Knowledge, Skills & Experience required
Essential
- A qualified accountant (CIMA / ACMA / ACCA or similar). Consideration will be given where significant industry experience and accomplishment in a similar role is demonstrated in lieu of qualifications.
- Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within a manufacturing / technical background.
- Previous experience of team supervision & performance management.
- Be highly competent using MS Excel, able to create custom reports, charts etc.
- Be competent using Finance software / ERP systems.
- Be confident dealing with suppliers and customers.
- Have excellent organisational skills.
- Demonstrate an aptitude for excellent attention to detail.
- Be able to work under pressure effectively and have excellent organisational skills.
- Be able to implement and maintain effective filing systems.
Desirable
- A degree in a relevant (or quantitative) discipline
- Previous experience of MS Dynamics (Business Central).
- Have worked as part of a team implementing a new, main business system.
- Have experience in the creation of new processes and procedures.
- Have experience dealing with foreign currencies.
- Have experience controlling inventory.
- Have experience working in a regulated, manufacturing environment.
