A key part of the visit was a presentation on Design for Manufacture (DfM) principles and methodologies. We explored how early design decisions influence cost, quality, and time to market, and how structured DfM approaches help de-risk development. Real project examples illustrated the value of considering materials, tolerances, automation, and supply chain realities from day one.

We’re proud to support the development of future engineers and to share practical insights from the frontline of medical device development. A big thank you to the Heriot-Watt team for collaborating with us, and to everyone who helped organise such an energetic and thoughtful visit. FlexMedical Solutions is proud to announce its role as a key partner in the delivery of a Gates Foundation grant awarded to Lepzi to advance next-generation diagnostics for preeclampsia.

The project aims to deliver accurate, affordable, and accessible testing solutions, particularly for use in low- and middle-income countries, where reliable diagnostics can have the greatest impact on maternal and neonatal health.

This collaboration highlights FlexMedical’s expertise in assay development and point-of-care technology and reinforces the company’s commitment to creating a healthier tomorrow, through innovative diagnostic solutions.

We are delighted to announce that, following the award of an R&D Grant from Scottish Enterprise, we are continuing to combine our engineering and assay development capabilities to extend the application of high performing, low cost biosensors.

The end device will be a wearable sensor that will have sample capture capability; the specific marker of interest will be biochemically targeted – before delivering it to a bespoke biosensor for quantification in a repeatable (continuous monitoring) manner over time. We are targeting detection of <50 µM of analyte and a %CV ≤10%

We are delighted to be able to partner with PalmSens and Solventum in the development of this biosensor.

The new wearable will be developed using the new PalmSens Sensit Wearable potentiostat, and controlled via a portable device using the FlexMedical App.

Solventum’s best in class adhesives will be instrumental in the development of a new low-cost high performance biosensor for use in the prototype system.

FlexMedical Solutions (FMS) are proud to present our latest group of Green Belt Certified employees. Four individuals, across the Science, Engineering, and Manufacturing functions enthusiastically participated in Six Sigma Green Belt training, tailored to Flex by Aspire Highland.

After they were presented with their certification, each hosted a poster Q&A session centered around their projects. Saifur, Victoria, Mark and Lily spoke passionately about their projects, sharing the business benefits of each, and answering questions both of a technical nature, and about the personal benefits they took from the Green Belt training journey.

The latest presentation means that 65% of the Manufacturing, Science, and Engineering team have been put through six sigma training between yellow and green belt. Chris McMurran has spent his entire career developing and testing IVD solutions. Having worked for the likes of Merck, BBI, Avacta and Omega Diagnostics in increasingly senior positions, Chris has amassed a wealth of experience whilst successfully commercialising products. Working alongside FMS CSO Donogh FitzGerald, Chris has demonstrated an ability to deliver complexity and manage teams.  Chris said “Working at FMS is incredibly challenging and rewarding. We work with clients from across the globe and help them to achieve their objectives faster and more effectively than they ordinarily would. It is technically very satisfying and I’m looking forward to my expanded responsibilities.”

An experienced finance leader, Graeme Baird has spent a significant amount of time in the life sciences sector with Alere Inc (now Abbott) and BBI Solutions.  Commenting on his recent promotion Graeme said “My experience as a finance professional in life sciences and other technical, or processing, industries will enable me to support the already successful senior leadership team at FMS continue to grow the business. I am looking forward to the opportunity to add value to FMS and the company’s stakeholders.”

Kevin Fallon, CEO added “FMS is already a success story and we get regular feedback attesting to the superior quality of our products and services. However, we never stand still and have set some very ambitious targets. In order to meet our objectives we need to expand the team, and with it the senior management group. Chris and Graeme represent the first of several changes that will crystalise over the coming months.”
