We provide full assay development services and have impressive inhouse engineering and manufacturing capabilities, allowing us to fabricate biosensors and assemble finished test cartridges; indeed, this extends to the formulation and deposition of chemistries.

Our modern facility is based in Livingston, central Scotland, less than 20 minutes from Edinburgh airport and 40 minutes from Glasgow.  With a mixture of UK and international clients, we are a forward-looking organisation with an exciting future.

 

Role Description

As an engineering graduate you will bring hands-on, technical expertise, and fresh thinking to the company.

As a contract business, we work on multiple projects simultaneously; this brings a lot of variety.  You will contribute to the development of new products and processes using design control process. You will contribute to customer specific contracts (developing and manufacturing diagnostic products on their behalf) and work on internal development programmes.

Reporting to the Technical Lead/CTO, you will spend focused time in key areas of the organisation, rotating through functions in your first 24 months.  You will be immersed in the product design, product development, process engineering, and manufacturing engineering functions, with the purpose of becoming a fully rounded expert in the design, development, and manufacture of POC diagnostic test consumables.  We will provide the opportunity for immediate learning to allow you to be contributing effectively to the business from the start.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Gain an understanding of all FMS processes and procedures to enable your effective contribution
  • Apply existing design knowledge to help develop a range of products and components across multiple projects
  • Assist product developers within the business with discreet work packages, utilising existing and newly developed skills
  • Support the operations team to solve challenges within our manufacturing areas
  • Collaborate with project leads to determine process optimisation such as yield improvements
  • Author, oversee, and execute protocols, and produce reports
  • Liaise with sub-contractors, suppliers, and clients, to effectively communicate and obtain information.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience required

Essential

  • A minimum of a Batchelor’s degree qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering subject
  • Demonstrable engineering design skills developed through your academic endeavours
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) and 3D modelling skills via packages such as Solidworks
  • Competent to perform statistical analysis on data using tools such as Minitab
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Creative problem solving skills

 

Desirable

  • Understand Design for Manufacture (DFM) methodology.
  • Knowledge of point of care diagnostics
  • Industrial placement / employment experience in an industry relevant to your degree
